I have received some pictures of a few unique SKS rifles.  I thought that these were interesting, and added a little something different then the “like new” rifles currently being sold.

The Above pictures are from a Yugo M59/66 that was owned by Robert Gibson and are used with his permission.

I received the following e-mail from T. Lapin, “I thought you might like to know (if no one else has mentioned it) that the Arabic writing on the stock in the photo next to the star/crescent photo is called the "basmallah" in Arabic : "Bismi 'llahi 'r-rahmani 'r-rahim" ("In the name of Allah, the merciful, the compassionate"). A very common Muslim expression. I'd guess this SKS came out of the Balkans wars; could have been carved by a Kosovar Albanian, Bosniak Muslim, or one of the "foreign fighters". Neat item, in any event.”  Thanks for the information!

The above pictures are from a Yugo M59 rifle owned by Jeff Gunter and are used with his permission.  I have received an e-mail stating that the shield depicted loosely represents the Bosnian Coat of Arms.  Thanks Reed.

The picture above is a decal of the Croation Coat of Arms on the stock of a Yugo M59/66.  Thanks to all who e-mailed with the ID and to AMX4080 for letting me post the picture.

I have also received reports of tags or stickers affixed to some Yugoslavian M59/66 rifles that may indicate that they were confiscated.

Text Box: Anyway, the only thing unusual was that it had a sticker on the left side…

Being the curious type, I emailed a buddy in Croatia and here is
his answer regarding the sticker:

> The word "ODUZETO" means "has been consfiscated" . Perhaps, this
> particular rifle was illegally held by someone and was taken from him
> by police. Do you the origin of the gun (Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia)?

> In that context, "PU" might mean "Policijska Uprava" (Police
> Department). I don't know about "SIS", but this was the acronym of
> Croatian military counterintelligence organisation (Sigurnosno
> Informativna Sluzba - The Service for Security and Information)

Thanks Noel for the sticker and info.
