SKS Survey Albanian SKS
Data
I recently bought a “bargain
hunter’s special” Albanian SKS. It was
discounted due to the stock being in poor condition. It also came with a replacement stock. Then it arrived it was covered in thick grease. When I started to clean it up I noticed that
all the exterior numbers matched. I
also noticed that the serial number seemed fairly low. It is 076x-67. I have read several firearms related bulletin boards to try to
learn more about the production figures of the Albanian SKS. This appears to be a first year model and
one of the first 800 rifles produced. I
felt that due to several factors (age, low serial number and scarcity), I
should try to restore this to the best condition I could using the original
stock.
The
following pictures show what it looked like after wiping off most of the
Cosmoline from the rifle.

The stock was
badly cracked on the left side from behind the action to the stock bolt. All the wood was present so I am going to
try to repair the crack

One of the
“legs” on the hand guard was completely gone.
I think at some point it was damaged.
In order to “fix” it, the damaged part was trimmed flush with the
surrounding wood as shown below. It
almost looks like it was made like this except for the leg on the other
side. I will not attempt to fix this.

I have had several inquiries about the accessories for the
Albanian SKS. My rifle came with the
cleaning kit and oil bottle in the stock.
The picture on the left shows the oil bottle with dimensions and the
cleaning kit. The rifle also came with
a chest pouch similar to a Chinese SKS chest pouch. My rifle did not come with a sling. The canvas sling from that came with my Yugo M59/66 will fit on
my Albanian SKS.
